Joyce is a Canadian artist residing in Edmonton, Alberta. Joyce was born in the Netherlands and moved to Alberta in 1967 as a child.
Joyce is drawn to vibrant colours in art, reminding her of the colourful fields of flowers that surrounded her during her childhood. For Joyce, there is no greater pleasure than enjoying walks in nature. She is an avid photographer so her camera is always close at hand. These daily walks inspire creative ideas and subsequently Joyce attempts to capture inspirations from nature on her canvases. Living in Alberta gives Joyce endless vistas of trees, water, mountains, city scapes, sky and snow; so the creative ideas keep flowing. Joyce's art is not limited to landscapes, however, as you will see from her gallery. Her art dances on a continuum between abstract and realism, rendering natural elements and subjects with loose contemporary strokes and daring vibrant colours and shapes. Joyce studied at the University of Alberta. She has a Bachelor of Education Degree and a Master of Education Degree. Joyce began teaching in Alberta in 1981 and taught art as well as other subjects to various age groups over many years. Although, Joyce enjoyed her career as a teacher, principal and later, as an executive officer of the ATA; she is now extremely delighted to have the time retirement affords to paint and focus on her creative pursuits. |
Joyce works out of her art studio in her Old Strathcona home in Edmonton. Please feel free to contact Joyce directly if you have a question about her artwork.
